Halloween Sight Words Worksheets for Kindergarten

These Halloween sight words worksheets practice the small words kids see on almost every page of an early reader: the, see, can, my, look and go. You get 6 free printable pages for kindergarten and older preschoolers, about ages 4 to 6, each in US Letter (8.5 x 11 in) and A4 PDF.
Sight words stick when kids meet them in lots of different ways, not just on a flash card. So each page does something new with the same short list. Kids trace the words, hunt for them among look-alikes, color pumpkins by word, follow a word through a maze, read and trace short sentences, and finally cut and glue words into sentences of their own.

What Each Page Asks Kids to Do
- Trace and Write: one dark model word, two dashed copies to trace, then space to write it alone.
- Find and Circle: the target word hides among words that look almost the same, like see, sea and she.
- Color by Sight Word: 30 pumpkins, each with a word. The key tells kids which color goes with the, see, can and my.
- See Word Maze: only the boxes that say “see” lead the bat home. Every other box is a different word.
- Read and Trace Sentences: four short sentences like “I see a bat.” with a picture to help.
- Build a Halloween Sentence: the words come mixed up. Kids cut them out and glue them in order.
Why Short Words Get So Much Attention
A small group of words makes up a big share of what kids read in their first books. Words like “the” and “see” also don’t always sound out neatly, so it helps when kids know them on sight. Once those words are automatic, a beginning reader can spend their energy on the new words in a sentence.
The find-and-circle page targets a common slip. Kids often guess from the first letter, so “sea” and “she” get read as “see.” Looking at every letter before circling builds a better habit than guessing.
The last two pages put the words to work. Reading “I like my hat.” with a picture next to it is a real sentence, and building one from cut-up words shows kids that words go in a set order to make sense.
Tips for Sight Word Practice
- Print at 100% or “Actual size” so the tracing lines stay the right height.
- Say each word out loud together before starting a page, and point under it as you read.
- Do one or two pages a day instead of the whole set. Short, regular practice works better.
- Black and white is fine. For the color page, set out only the four crayons from the key.
- On the maze, have kids read each “see” out loud as they color it. That’s six extra readings.
- Keep the cut-up words from the last page in an envelope and use them again to build silly sentences.
